Grandma Bellows
Frame: 46 × 38 in. (116.8 × 96.5 cm)
the artist, New York (1919-1925); his wife Emma S. Bellows, New York (1925-1959; to her estate); Estate of Emma S. Bellows, (1959-about 1961); [H. V. Allison & Co., New York; sold on December 26, 1961 to Oklahoma Art Center] [1]; Oklahoma Art Center, later Oklahoma City Art Museum, still later Oklahoma City Museum of Art.
[1] Some Museum documents state the work was purchased by Raymond and Verna Young of Oklahoma City from H. V. Allison & Co. (including an undated object file card); based on correspondence between Nan Sheets, Director, Oklahoma Art Center and Gordon K. Allison of H. V. Allison & Co. from November and December 1961 and January 1962, it seems that Verna Young viewed the work in New York and recommended it to the Oklahoma Art Center, and the OAC then purchased the work.
