Barbara Broadwell

Artist Info
Barbara BroadwellAmerican, b. 1954

Born in Great Falls, Montana, Barbara Broadwell pursued an MFA in Ceramics from San Diego State University after a period in the US Army and a career in nursing. Through ceramic and mixed media sculptures that comment on or reflect social, philosophical and political activities, Broadwell explores the human condition. Like Goya and Francis Bacon, Broadwell is pulled by the grotesque, and her work often combines human with animal forms to expose human frailty under social, psychological and religious pressures. Exhibited across the United States, Broadwell is Associate Professor of Art, Sculpture Coordinator at the University of Central Oklahoma. (JRB Art at the Elms Gallery)
